Laurel Wines
Granton, Tasmania
Laurel Bank was established in 1986, the second vineyard in the lower Derwent Valley after Moorilla. At this early stage in the establishment of the industry in Tasmania, it was not widely accepted that growing grapes and making fine wine could be a suitable industry for Tasmania. Times have changed, the pace of vineyard development in Tasmania has been rapid. However, despite our mild summers and long, dry autumns, site selection parameters must be rigorously applied. Founder Kerry Carland believes that the Laurel Bank site meets the criteria for the production of high quality fruit with low yields, intense flavors and definitive varietal characters.
This is a family owned and operated winery, with daughter Greer Carland firmly in charge of winemaking activities and Kerry managing the four hectare vineyard. Greer is a meticulous and passionate winemaker with experience in three states of Australia, North and South America, and France.
